We live in cynical times. Many black people have realized the best way to get publicity it to say something negative about President Barack Obama. FOX News loves this stuff and this has been proven accurate by the recent news that conscious rapper Lupe Fiasco has recently been invited to debate Bill O'Reilly on "The O'Reilly Factor."

Now you would wonder why O'Reilly, a noted hip hop hater, would have a mildly famous rapper on his show. FOX tends to view any rapper (and black person) as a thug, as seen in it recent trashing of Common, a rapper famous for writing love songs and being a vegetarian. However Lupe Fiasco recently called Obama a terrorist, for his support of the American war machine and in particular his support of Israel.

Lupe Fiasco is considered to be one of the more deeper thinkers in the rap community -- but even that isn't saying much. Hip hop's golden era of Public Enemy is long gone. Most of today's hip hop is knee-deep in materialism, violence and sex -- all messages approved by Corporate America.

I tend to think that entertainers should stick to entertaining and people shouldn't turn to them for political guidance. Political comic Bill Maher said he deliberately changed the format of his show "Real Time," to limit the celebrity segment, because so many of the entertainers could not string together an intelligent sentence.

Fiasco has written some intelligent songs criticizing conflict diamonds and has supported worldwide clean water iniatives, but you wonder how deep his knowledge is? Some of his comments on Global Grind, show he is all over the place. He said "admires some of the things that Glenn Beck does," and questions why Obama is raising funds for his campaign, but doesn't give "$100 million to the people of Detroit." Even more damning in his initial interview, where he called Obama a terrorist, was his admission that he doesn't vote.

Lupe Fiasco simply does not understand how the political system works. I remember reading an Vibe magazine interview with Jessie Jackson about 10 years ago. Jackson said he once encountered an young man who was angry at the economic situation. After listening to the man rant for several minutes, Jackson asked him if he voted, the young man said no. Jackson then said that he was outside the political system, and the only way to effect change is from inside the system.

The political system runs on money, and in this society money equals power. Lupe Fiasco is a man of means, I bet he could raise $1M. He could use that to create a Political Action Committee (PAC), called say LupePAC, and donate $1M. That PAC could hire a dozen lobbyists who could badger politicians until they affect the political change that Lupe Fiasco wants. A PAC could also hire a PR company to make sure the airwaves are flooded with issues that LupePAC supports. They could also make sure armies of volunteers are kept informed with e-mails and phone calls urging them to contact their elected representatives. That is how you get things done, son.

And this has actually happened. Hip hop veteran Russell Simmons has created political action groups to lobby politicians to reduce mandatory drug sentencing laws, which have been responsible for sending many black and Latino men away for long sentences.

Maybe Lupe Fiasco, like a lot of people on the far left, simply do not have a realistic understanding of the political system. The system is horribly tarnished by money, and it moves at snail's pace. More pointedly, the Supreme Court's Citizen's United ruling allows unlimited amounts of money to be dumped into the political process. If liberals want real change, they need to reelect Obama so he can appoint more progressive voices to the Supreme Court. They also need to elect more progressive representatives and senators, and make sure they stick to their campaign promises. But this is like the chicken and the egg problem, in a political system ruled by money, progressive voices have a hard time getting elected because they get outspent in the fundraising arms race.

As Jesse Jackson said, if you want to effect change you have to work within the system. Choosing not to vote is like opting out of the system. And those who choose to opt out of the system have no room to complain when things get worse. Just look at what Republican governors like Rick Scott and Scott Walker have done in their short terms. This is what happens when people on the left stay home.

Herman Cain is a Placebo for White Racism

After watching Tea Party favorite and GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain's new campaign video, I finally came to a realization. I had long wondered what was the attraction was for the only African American Republican presidential candidate. But then I realized that Cain is running as an apologist for white racism. And that is why the Tea Party loves him.

Cain, with his rags to riches story of rising from the son of a chauffeur to a CEO, fits in perfectly with people who want to believe America does not still have issues with race. Republicans can vote for Cain and say, "Well, we aren't racist, we voted for a black man." I guess they have forgotten about all those signs they had at the health care rallies a few years ago, depicting President Barack Obama as everything from a witch doctor to a monkey.

I have several problems with Cain, apart from his apologetic tour. He has no political experience. His only other political campaign was losing a GOP primary in Georgia, and while some may see that as an advantage, it isn't. The last time a non politician was elected to the White House was Dwight Eisenhower, who lead Allied forces in World War II. And if you want to know how well non politicians do in office, just ask California how Arnold Schwarzenegger worked out.

Cain's main selling point is his business experience. But after the Wall Street excesses that nearly crashed the world economy, why do Americans keep screaming for government to be run more like a business? Do they really want government run like Lehman Brothers and Enron?

Corporate chiefs don't have the temperament for the political world, as can be seen in the disastrous reign of Florida Gov. Rick Scott, who is fast-gaining a reputation as the worse governor in the country. Scott, a former health care executive who was fired after his company received the largest fine in American history for Medicare fraud, is facing animosity from the left and the right.

Scott has barely been in office six months and Floridians are already talking about a recall. Cain has already flubbed questions about the complex Israeli-Palestinian conflict, so who knows how worse he will do under even more scrutiny?

But the really troubling thing about Cain, is how he is so willing to pander to racial politics. He bandies about phrases like, "leaving the Democratic plantation," and being a "Son of the South."

Cain is appealing to Nascar Dads, which is ironic because many of these people also expressed some of the most virulent hatred towards Obama because he was "Muslim," or "foreign." And at his lowest point Cain, pandered to bigots by bragging that he would not name a Muslim person to his cabinet. (He later tried to backtrack on this.)

Republicans like to say that Cain's popularity shows that the GOP has embraced diversity, but I suspect that if he was made the Republican presidential candidate, he would split the party. Some of the ex Dixiecrats, who were seduced by Nixon's Southern Strategy, would split off and join a party that expressed more radical racial views.

But even if Cain was white, he would still be like Sarah Palin, a joke of a candidate, who has no chance of getting elected. He is just lapping up the media attention in his "I'm Trying to Get Paid" tour." The campaign has done wonders for his name recognition. And if he has to become the latest conservative black minstrel, he seems wiling to pay that price. He has plenty of company alongside Alan Keyes, Juan Williams and Jessie Lee Peterson in FOX News' Brotherhood of Self-Loathing Brothers.

Angle Distances Herself from Her Own Comments

I hope Nevada voters come to their senses and reelect Sen. Harry Reid, because the other option is downright frightening. State Sen. Sharron Angle is challenging Reid for the U.S. senate seat, but her views are so extreme, that even she is trying to distance herself for her own views.

Her latest stunt is trying to sue the Reid campaign for publishing comments from her old web site. Angle has a new web site, which has been scrubbed of her old controversial views such as privatizing Medicare and opposing abortion under any circumstance.

Angle's new web site is part of her rebranding campaign, which has meant largely avoiding the media. However the Reid campaign has published her old comments at a web site called Sharronsundergroundbunker.com.

I am not an expert on media law, but I don't think you can sue someone for publishing comments which are true. Also, even if you take a down a web site it still lives on on the Internet. Apparently Angle doesn't seem to realize that.

Beck made $32M in 09, Doesn't Care About Political Process

Here is a depressing thought. While millions of Americans are struggling with mounting bills and long-term unemployment, self-described "entertainer" Glenn Beck made $32 million in 2009.

His earnings come from speaking engagements, books sales, his radio show and TV show. I guess being a right-wing loony, and selling crap to gullible Americans is a lucrative business. (Further proof that Americans are not too bright.) It has made people like Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter millionaires.

In an interview on Bill Maher's "Real Time," Keith Olbermann once said that most right-wing propagandists simply do it for the money. And if you need further proof of that consider this quote from Beck. In an interview with Forbes magazine he says, "I could give a flying crap about the political process. We're an entertainment company."

These people don't care about the issues, and they definitely don't care about the middle class and blue-collar Americans, they lionize. Rush Limbaugh can afford the best health care in the world, and so he doesn't care if average Americans are dying by the thousands because they can't get decent health coverage.

Limbaugh, a thrice-divorced, ex-junkie, whore monger, makes his living selling "traditional values" to blue-collar Americans. Coulter who makes racist jokes about Middle Easterners, was pictured with African American Jimmie Walker, who later proclaimed how much he loved her. And Beck, who equates social justice with socialism, is a member of the Mormon Church, who regularly set aside money for the poor and underprivileged. These people don't even believe in the very crap they are selling!

Beck says that he is a "regular guy." Hard to believe that when you have two bodyguards and are pulling down $32 million a year. So now Americans know these guys are just saying whatever they have to do to sell books and ads -- stop buying their products!

Limbaugh and Co. Fuel Fear of a Black President

A few days ago I had an interesting conversation with my cousin about the state of race relations in the age of Obama. My cousin said,"Things are getting better, but the people who have a problem with black people are getting worse." To further illustrate his story, he told me about one of his friends, a white lady, whose daughter used to play regularly with a friend, who was also white. One day, one of the girls discovered that her friend stopped showing up for playdates. Her mother went to the other mom and asked why. The answer: "You voted for Obama.

This story is all the more poignant considering the recent wing-nut fest that was CPAC, which "Daily Show" host Jon Stewart described as the "Festival of Whites." Glenn Beck got on stage and put on the same nightly carnival show he does on FOX News. One thing he did say that was correct was suggesting that the GOP needs to admit it has a problem. Beck said the problem was spending, but the real problem is race.

Race is a frustrating problem in America, because it tends to attract polar opposite opinions. Black people are often aggrieved about their situation, while white people seem to be in deep denial that there is a problem. A common excuse is,"I didn't own any slaves." But that is a simplistic answer, slavery was outlawed about a 100 years ago, but there are several pressing problems affecting African Americans and other people of color.

You may not have owned slaves, but what did you do when the police were torturing and executing black men? What did you do when black men were being locked up for crimes they didn't commit? And what did you do when banks were steering people of color, with good credit, into high-interest loans?

As my cousin said there are many people who are deeply uncomfortable with the idea of a black president. They feel their old world, of white male privilege and a comfortable middle class lifestyle, is slipping away. To them Obama is the John the Baptist of the Apocalypse, the harbinger of the destruction of White America as they know it. The clearest evidence of this was seen when Obama decided to hold his impromptu Q and A session with House Republicans. Obama answered, deflected and parried their questions with aplomb, and all the while you got the impression, that this smart, articulate and knowledgeable black man, was driving them crazy.

Black people may have dominated in sports and entertainment, but in the fields of business and politics, white men still ruled the roost. Obama spells the end of that. I am sure a lot of older white men are worried that Corporate America is soon going to end up looking like the the NBA, with their grandchildren only allowed to play bit parts.

The extreme wing of the Republican party realizes this and that is why with the aid of their propaganda department, also known as FOX News, they are trying to whip white rage into a frenzy. Blue collar and middle-class Americans have a lot to be angry about, with chronic unemployment and the near collapse of the financial market. However FOX News is channeling that anger into rage at the Obama administration, when it was the Bush administration's tax cuts to the rich and unfunded foreign wars that largely caused the problem. Joe Stack, a frustrated computer programmer, was so angry that he flew a plane into an IRS building in Austin, killing one worker. And even after this apparent incident of domestic terrorism, Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) still said, that he emphathized with Stack and urged listerners to "implode" more IRS buildings.

This deadly mix of rage and frustration is being stoked by the conservative triumvirate of Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.

American Talkers recently named Limbaugh, Beck and Hannity, respectively, as the top three most influential talk show hosts in America. All three commentators are infamous for their barely-masked racial animosity. They won't come out and say they hate black people and don't think Obama should be president, but they'll use a series of code words and sleights to convey their message.

Limbaugh is fond of using words like "uppity," and "arrogant," which were used in Jim Crow times to describe black who didn't know their place. Hannity simply employs hired minstrels like Jesse Lee Patterson to say the things that any white host would be fired for mentioning.

These hate mongers understand the fears of their AM radio audience. Rush Limbaugh recently said the only reason why Obama made it through Harvard Law school is because his professors wrote his papers for him. This taps into the anger that many white Americans have about affirmative action. There is nothing worse you can call a black employee than an affirmative action hire. Limbaugh topped that by recently comparing Obama's health care legislation to reparations. (Funny how those "reparations" will benefit a lot of non-black people.) Limbaugh also said that Obama is a "primitive, indigenous guy." This is highly ironic because Obama is a graduate of Harvard Law school, while Limbaugh dropped out college in his freshman year. (Hannity and Beck are also college drop outs.)

I am not the only person concerned about the rage that is being nurtured by the right. Dr. Sherman Miller, a columnist and long-time Republican activist from Delaware, describes Beck, Limbaugh and Hannity as America's racist trinity of evilwho are "perpetuating a media lynching of President Barack Obama." Additionally, former GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee said that right-wing bloggers urged him to physically attack First Lady Michelle Obama when she was a guest on his show. Huckabee said he was "disgusted by the anger and meanness."

Limbaugh and co. have said that they want Obama and his policies to fail, and they will use every weapon in their arsenal to stop him -- even if that means lies, smears and encouraging violence.

Obama Has Not Appointed Any Czars!

The next time some brain-dead Tea Bagger says there are "more czars in the Obama administration than in the Soviet Union," please point them towards this article.

They are wrong on two levels. Firstly, THERE ARE NO CZARS in the Obama administration. There have never been any czars in any administration. The term "czar" is a media phrase used to describe a White House special adviser who is assigned to oversee a certain policy area. Van Jones, was the erstwhile green jobs czar. Richard Clarke, author of "Your Country Failed You," was "counter terrorism czar" under three presidents, including both Bushes and Bill Clinton. Clarke's real title was National Coordinator for Security, Infrastructure Protection and Counter-terrorism. (Try fitting that on a business card.)

Jones' full title was Special Adviser for Green Jobs. However the media decided that green czar was easy to write and also sounded snappier. According to a Time magazine article most czars do not have any budgetary control, or real power. Of course it is easier for FOX News viewers to believe the lie, than actually do the research, which took me all of 30 minutes.

In addition, there were no czars in the Soviet Union. The last Tsar, Nicholas II, was killed in 1918 during the Russian Revolution. The Soviet Union was officially formed in 1922.

Alarmist Root Article Claims Obama Paving Way for Palin Presidency

Sometimes left wing blogs can really get on my nerves, especially when they start going over the top with their anti-Obama diatribes. The Root, a web site that is geared towards African American news, recently printed a ridiculously alarmist story claiming that Barack Obama's screw ups are guarnateeing a Sarah Palin presidency.

Firstly, Palin has not come out and said she will run in 2012 and secondly, there is no guarantee that she will make it through the gruelling primary process. Palin has a reputation for quitting when the going gets tough and she attracts scandals the same way Tiger Wood's attracts bimbos.

In addition, 2012 is still two years away. There is still plenty of time for the economy to improve. Plus Jon Jeter, author of the Root article, is discounting Obama's popularity. The country is changing and becoming browner, while the GOP seems to be digging in its heels by becoming more conservative and sticking to it's base -- angry white people. Just look at the success of the Tea Baggers.

Change Congress Says Money Has Ruined American Political System

Here is a video that you need to forward to all of your politically-active friends. Larry Lessig, a Stanford Law professor, is co-founder of an organization called Change Congress. Lessig has created a YouTube video which nails the problem with Congress.

Lessig said that the problem is not who is in power, but who controls them. Basically, Lessig argues that Congress is controlled by the people who write the checks. They are the real power, so right now we have government which does not listen to it's people, but listens to the special interests and lobbyist who control them. Lessig also points out that President Barack Obama has identified the problem and mentioned it one of his campaign speeches.

Lessig argues that we will never get health care reform, climate change legislation, smaller government or financial regulation, unless the system changes. Change Congress is arguing that the only way that government can be returned to the people is by public funded elections, or by only allowing small $100 donations from individuals.

Ron Paul Says American People Are Demanding Third Option

Rep. Ron Paul talks to CNN about former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's decision to speak at the Tea Party convention. (She is alleged to be collecting $100,000 for his speech.) Palin turned down the opportunity to speak at the Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC) convention alongside other Republican 2012 hopefuls, which may suggest that she is positioning herself to run as a third-party candidate.

I don't think Palin is a serious candidate and even if she ran on the third party ticket, she would only guarantee their failure. Palin creates drama every where she goes, and unlike Ronald Reagan, who was called the Teflon President because scandals never stuck to him, Palin is theVelcro Candidate who collects scandals the way nerds collect Star Wars figures. If the Teabbagers want to put their faith in a candidate as shallow as Palin, they have big problems.

Paul, a Republican with a libertarian streak, says that the main problem with the American political system is that both parties are too similar, especially when it comes to their views about the size of government and fiscal policies. He has some points, although I would argue that there is a big difference between a Republican party that started two wars and gave tax cuts to the rich, and a Democratic party, which is trying to push through health reform and middle class tax cuts.

Paul says that any third-party candidate will have a hard time breaking through the American political system. He said that even getting on the debates is difficult if you do not belong to either of the two parties.

O'Reilly Calls for Shoot First, Ask Questions Later Policy

Recently on "Countdown," Keith Olbermann again named Bill O'Reilly as the Worst Person in the World. This time it was arguing that terrorists don't deserve rights, and should be arrested, tortured and shot on the spot, with no trial.

Apart from the fact that this breaks about a dozen laws and is blatantly fascist, this attitude also leaves no room for error or intelligence gathering. But I guess that is not important when the people whose rights are being violated are Arabs. Guantanamo has proven to be a terrorist incubator, and if any Muslims weren't terrorists when they went in, after 18 months of torture they sure were.

Any intelligence officer worth his salt would rather keep a terrorist alive and squeeze them for as much information as possible. In addition, torture has been proven not to work. As I have mentioned before, if you shove a hot poker into someone's eye, he will probably tell you whatever you want to hear.

Maybe someone should tell the people at FOX, that "24" is a fiction show, and Jack Bauer's methods don't work in the real world.

Steele Raking it in on the Lecture Circuit

Something tells me that Michael Steele will not see out his term as chair of the Republican National Committee. He was appointed as a knee-jerk reaction to Obama, and he is facing a party that is tearing itself apart at the seams. Steele is loathed by the neo-fascist (Nazi) wing of the Republican party. Former Klansman David Duke wrote a scathing letter when Steele was appointed leader. He is also having problems trying to bring the lunatic fringe (Teabbagers) into the mainstream.

Steele has a bad habit of attracting bad PR. He totally lost the respect of the black community when he kowtowed to serial racist Rush Limbaugh. Now there is word that Steele is pocketing $20,000 a pop on the lecture circuit. Aren't people politicians supposed to do that after they retire? Steele needs to remember that as a black man, people have less tolerance for your screw ups ...

Rep Aaron Schock Advocates Torture

Illinois Congressman Aaron Schock is advocating torture as a way of elicting information from terrorists. So after the Abu Ghraib debacle, he is still advocating a policy which has been proven to be ineffective. You see Mr. Schock, when someone is delivering electric shocks (no pun intended) to your testicles, you tend to tell them whatever they want to hear, so they will just leave you alone.

Torture is a also a violation of the Geneva Convention, the Military Code of Conduct and several U.S. laws. FBI agents knew, this that is why their superiors asked them to leave when they saw what was going on at Abu Ghraib. Any evidence gathered by torture would be thrown out in court.

I've met people like Schock before, hard-core conservatives who say they favor a muscular military policy, but avoid the military like the plague. Does Schock think that torture is a valid policy to use on American soldiers who are captured by the enemy?

Limbaugh Says Obama is "Power Thirsty Little Man-Child"

This formula is getting old. Every few days conservative propagandist Rush Limbaugh says something outrageous, and then the media gets all in fuss over it. Limbaugh does this to get ratings, and he knows he has to keep coming up with more outrageous things to say. Limbaugh's show should come with a disclaimer that says "for entertainment purposes only," unfortunately there are some people who believe everything he says. Limbaugh's arguments don't stand out to scrutiny, this is a guy who has a four-hour daily show which brings him millions of dollars. He also said that his talent is "on loan from God." Maybe Limbaugh is jealous because Obama has managed to keep a woman and impregnate her -- two things Limbaugh will never do.

Former CNN curmedgeon Lou Dobbs went on FOX to spew his irrational hate speech. Dobbs said that he may run for senate in the future. If he honestly believes that he has a chance of winning elective office, the dementia must be really kicking in. But Bill O'Reilly outdid Dobbs' lunacy by asking if Obama is the devil!

More Details Come Out About The McCain-Palin Feud

Hindsight is 20/20, but you have to wonder what was Sen. John McCain thinking when he choose Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate? The partnership seem fraught with problems as McCain chafed at the fact the Palin was outshadowing him.

Now we have more details about the troubled paring. A new book called "Sarah From Alaksa," claims that the McCain people pulled the plug when Palin went on stage on election night. Media reports claim that Palin also wanted to give a consession speech, and McCain said no. (It would have been the first time that the vice presidential candidate also gave a concession speech.) The McCain team cut the power on the Palin family when they walked on stage, to make sure she they couldn't say anything.

Obama Campaign Manager: Palin Was a Blessing to Dems

David Plouffe, Barack Obama's, campaign manager went on "Meet The Press" on Sunday and all but thanked Sarah Palin. He said the Obama campaign was astounded when her selection was announced. (They had to Google her.) More importantly, he said that Palin, and the conservative wing of the GOP, are leading them to ruin. New York Times columnist Frank Rich details how Palin and outsiders are meddling in a New York congressional race.

Plouffe has a point. As shown in the last election, the country is becoming more liberal, and yet elements of the GOP want the party to become more conservative. If they keep going that way, they will eventually end up looking like a fascist party. (Although some liberal commentators would say they already have reached that point.)

Most presidents and ruling parties, succeed by being moderates. Clinton was a moderate Democrat, and Obama seems to be a moderate. Is there room for moderates in the GOP? It does not seem so.

Tea Baggers Plan "Judgement Day"

Every time I watch the Tea Baggers they just seem to confirm how ignorant and uninformed they are. Here is a video from the Brad Blog, where blogger Brad Friedman interviews California Tea Baggers.

The thing that unites them is a hatred of Obama, although most of them can't explain why they hate him - at least not rationally. They are angry, but can't seem to focus their anger properly. They say they are against socialism, yet many of them voted for Bush who started all of these bailouts. And they are against higher taxes, but hate Obama, even though he has promised to cut taxes for people who make less than $250,000.

I doubt if people who make more than $250,000 are going to be out protesting with the Tea Baggers. I know several people who make that kind of money and they are not Tea Baggers. One of the Tea Baggers said he hated Obama because he was "Chicago politics." That is one of those political buzz words that really doesn't mean anything. It's a word they heard a million times on FOX and are now repeating. We really need to invest more in education in this country.

Iowa GOP Baulk at Palin Speaking Fee

An Iowa conservative group is struggling to raise Sarah Palin's $100,000 speaking fee. Why anyone would spend that kind of money to listen to Palin's ungrammatical drivel is beyond me. I have to wonder if all these speaking fees and book deals don't make her look money hungry? Palin cannot seriously be considered as a candidate for president in 2012. She is a velcro candidate. Instead of scandals bouncing off her, they stick to her. She has a scandal a week, first it was the pregnant, unwed daughter, who was against abstinence and then for it, now it's her daughter's baby daddy, who can't keep his mouth shut. Does the GOP really needs this? Democrats are hoping she gets the ticket.
