Phony Conservatives Court ‘Values Voters’

Gingrich

One of the mysteries of the GOP is it's relationship with so-called values voters. This issue has become especially pertinent considering that several Republican presidential candidates are planing to speak at “Rediscover God in America,” a telecast that will beamed to millions of church goers.

One of the speakers at this event is Newt Gingrich. Yes, that Newt Gingrich, who is married to his third wife, who used to be a staffer. The same Newt who got booted as speaker of the House for failure to impeach President Bill Clinton. While he was trying to impeach Clinton, Gingrich was also getting blow jobs from Callista, now wife no. 3. Apparently, he did this so he would not have to lie about having extra-marital sex. Like Clinton, apparently Newt does not consider oral sex to be sex.

My first thought when I read about this, why do social conservatives keeping buying this crap? You often wonder who is really fooling who here?

Most of the GOP presidential candidates seem to be sophisticated political operators and I doubt if they believe in the Rapture (even though they claim to) or really hate gays. Evidently they must be okay with gay people, because they tolerated former closeted gay man, Ken Mehlman, running the GOP during the Bush years.

The conservative voters who are supposed to suck up this family values crap, are not much better. The Conservative South is known for its frequent divorces and remarriages, high teen pregnancy rate and high STD rate.

The GOP sticks to these wedge issues because it knows that they will always garner the votes of “conservative” working, class people. It seems that while Jim Bob and Darlene, might like universal health care, voting against gay marriage and abortion is more important.

In reality, Americans love their porn, quickie divorces, the right to choose and don’t mind gay people, as long as they stay in the closet. And here are two statistics that indicate how conservative red states really are. According figures from the adult entertainment industry, the state that consumes the most online porn is conservative Utah, second only to Missippi. And the no. 1 day for online porn use? Sunday.

Palin's a MILF, Who Cares If She's an Airhead?

Conservatives Love Dumb Women -- As Long as They're Cute

Large Tea Party Rally Held In Sen. Harry Reid's Hometown Of Searchlight, NV

If you ever wondered why a shallow, hypocritical, media-whore like Sarah Palin ever became a national political figure, Bill Maher breaks it down. On Friday's "Real Time," Maher and his panel of guests, which included blogger Andrew Sullivan and director Judd Apatow, discussed the Sarah Palin phenomenon.

Maher says it all boils down to sex appeal. Yeah, Palin is a dim, wingnut who can barely string together an intelligent sentence, but she looks good. Basically, Conservative men still want to have sex with her, and for that they are willing to overlook her flaws. And that makes a lot of sense. If you consider that the Republican party is largely made of old, white men, it explains why they would idolize a pretty woman who speaks their language of God, guns and xenophobia.

Most of the female anchors on Fox News look like they came off a beauty queen assembly line. (Former FOX News commentator Angela McClowan is a former paegent contestant.) They are all pretty, mostly blonde and wear tight, form-fitting clothes. There have been memos showing that the female anchors were told to wear short skirts and show plenty of leg. The web site Right Wing News recently published a list of the top 15 Hottest Conservative Women in the New Media.

Conservatives seem to be under the impression that all left-wing women are hairy, hippies who don't wear deodorant. And because of that they are willing to tolerate the drivel spouted by Neocon bimbos like Sarah Palin and Ann Coulter.

Conservatives think the left hates Sarah Palin because she is attractive and has a big family. But as Jon Stewart said, the left just sees through her BS. They see her for what she is, a mannequin who makes a living parroting right-wing cliches.

Corporations Want to Be Left Alone to Kill Workers

Obama walks past crosses representing the 29 coal miners killed at the Upper Big Branch Mine explosion during a memorial service in Beckley

One of the mantras that conservatives like Sarah Palin love to repeat is that business does better without the intervention of government. Neocons would have us believe that government simply slows down enterprise and make things more complicated. Of course who needs little things like safety regulations or anti-fraud laws?

But these recent stories should make all Americans have second thoughts. Over the past year we have seen:
  • Twenty nine workers killed in the worst mine accident in U.S. history
  • Billions of dollars evaporated because of high-risk financial ventures on Wall Street
  • Eleven workers killed in the British Petroleum oil rig explosion.
  • Apple has outsourced manufacturing of the iPhone to a plant in China that has seen nine worker suicides this year.
In all of these cases, the main problem was lack of government regulation. Massey Energy mines were infamous for their violations and owner Don Blakenship, had utter contempt for the federal government. Massey Energy racked up a total of 250 safety violations.

Wall Street created financial terms that were so risky and complicated that few people understood them. One of the monsters they cooked up were derivatives, where bankers took out insurance on people to default on loans they gave them.

And as for the BP explosion, under the Bush administration, the Mineral Management Service, was stocked with cronies who were trying to get jobs at the very companies they were supposed to be monitoring. And when they weren't lobbying for cushy government gigs, they were looking at porn or doing drugs.

So what can we learn from these debacles? One, corporations don't give a damn about their workers, and two, when the government lets corporations monitor themselves, workers die. Ideally, corporations would love to have slave labor, who they don't have to pay and who never complain. The closest we have got to that is illegal immigrants.

Conservative Columnist Says Palin is Just A Reality TV Star

Meet The Press
David Brooks

Here is news for all you Sarah Palin fans. You are delusion. Palin will never run for national office and she is about as likely to be elected president as Sponge Bob Square Pants.

This should be glaringly obvious to anyone who has sat through her shallow, rambling, grammar-free speeches. But there is more news to imply that Palin has no interest and no chance of becoming president. News reports this week show that Palin raked in $12 million after she resigned as Alaska governor. Another report detailed her extravagant travel requests which include bendable straws, limos and private jets.

But here is the coup de grace from New York Times columnist David Brooks. Brooks, a conservative, dismisses Palin as nothing more than a Reality TV star and urges people to focus on real politicians. In a recent discussion with Times' columnist Gail Collins, Brooks said, "She is a half-term former governor with a TV show. She is not going to be the leader of any party and doesn’t seem to be inclined in that direction."

Brooks argues that Palin functions as a Rorschach test for both sides, left and right, to project their views on. To Republicans, she is a gun-toting, pin-up gal who espouses traditional family values (even though her daughter had a child out of wedlock.) To Democrats, she is an ignorant, shallow Christian fundamentalist. But either way, we won't ever have to worry about Palin presidency.

GOP Lacking Decent Candidates for 2012

Newt Gingrich Discusses U.S. Budget Process In Washington

Newt Gingrich

While the mainstream media seems to fueling the story that the Democrats are in trouble, the Republicans are not exactly in great shape either. The recent CPAC poll shows the lack of viable Republican candidates for 2012. Rep. Ron Paul, a fan of the libertarian crowd, was the surprise winner of the poll, but he comes with all kinds of baggage.

Ron Paul, and his family, have been linked to racial scandals on at least three occasions. The latest thing I discovered was a picture of Paul arm-in-arm with Derek Black, a second generation white separatist, who ran for a GOP post in Florida. There is a saying from Ian Fleming's "Goldfinger," "Once is pure chance, twice is coincidence, three times is enemy action." So according to Paul's track record and the company he keeps, it seems clear where he stands.

The other candidate that conservatives are excited about is former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, the genius behind the Contract on America and impeachment of President Bill Clinton. When the smoke from the impeachment, cleared Gingrich and his replacement Rep. Dan Burton were both out of a job, and Clinton was still in office.

Gingrich, who has formed a PAC, also has a pretty messy personal life. He is currently on his third wife, and was having oral sex with a staffer, while he was trying to get Bill Clinton fired for the same thing. (He did this so he could claim that he was not extra martial intercourse.) Gingrich may believe that he washed away his sins by converting to Catholicism and confessing to Focus on the Family founder James Dobson, but I doubt if the media will be as forgiving.

The best candidate seems to be Mitt Romney, but he failed to capture the nomination last time. And with the Republican party currently being hijacked by the far right, I doubt if Romney or Paul could get elected. There is always the wild card Sarah Palin, but that seems to be more of a media story than anything else. Palin's poll numbers are abysmal, and she is too far right to win over moderate parts of the country.

It also seems that Republicans are beginning to cotton onto the fact that Palin is shallow. Bill O'Reilly recently said she needs to go back to "political college," and Jeb Bush said GOP candidates need to show "more intellectual curiosity." Who do you think he was referring to?

Massachusetts Gun Nut is a Palin, Tea Party Fan

Right-wing Media, Politicians Urging Violent Revolt

Palin addresses the Tea Party

On Thursday, I posted a story about Gregory Girard, a Massachusetts man who was arrested with a stockpile of weapons he had gathered in preparation for Armageddon.

Well it turns out that he is a fan of Sarah Palin and also supported the Tea Party's agenda. Girard was also a neo-racist, who believed that Obama was going to raise an army of an "army of inner city youths" who were going to impose martial law on all the God-fearing, gun-toting white folks. (And we all know who lives in the inner city.)

Girard also believed that Sarah Palin was some kind of Joan of Arc sent by God to lead America back to the light. You can read more of Girard's views on his blog, "Patriots for America."

This is not the first time the far right has been linked to political violence. Last August, Nancy Genovese, a Glenn Beck fan, was arrested for scoping out an Air Force base, while she had an assault rifle, a shot gun and 500 rounds of ammunition in her car. And in February 2009, James Adkisson, shot up a Tennessee Unitarian Church after reading Bernard Goldberg's "100 People Who are Screwing Up America." Adkisson also said that he wanted to kill every Democrat in Congress.

Post's Broder Says Palin Tea Party Speech Was "Pitch Perfect"

Meet The Press

David Broder

Washington Post columnist David Broder is referred to as the "dean of the Washington Press Corps." Well it might be time for the Dean to retire. His latest column is a fawning a love letter to Sarah Palin and her recent speech at the Tea Party convention.

(I think Broder may have scored some Viagra and is hot for Palin.) One of the problems with the newspaper business if you have fossils like Broder, who have been in place for years, and no one dares to question or even challenge.

Broder said that Palin was "pitch perfect" and hit all the conservative and populist notes. Maybe Broder is getting senile, because most media pundits widely condemned her speech, which was the usually grab bag of GOP talking points, strung together in Palin's grammar-free style of talking.

Also Broder needs to remember that Palin was speaking to a group of assorted nuts who believe that the president was born in Kenya and one of their speakers advocated bringing back racist voting laws. Huffington Post Editor Simon Whatley describes the Tea Baggers as a "national embarrassment.

Broder goes on to say that Palin may pose a challenge to GOP front runner Mitt Romney in 2012. The GOP had better hope that Palin, who prepared for her big speech by writing notes on her hand, doesn't run in 2012, because a recent Washington Post poll said that most Americans think she is not qualified to lead the country.

Poll Says FOX News is Most Trusted News Source

74 Percent of Poll Responder Where White

Here is a sign of the apocalypse, if the ever was one. A recent poll by Public Policy Polling states that FOX News is the most trusted news source. Yes, I had to read that twice too. The poll states that 49 percent of the responders said they trusted FOX News and 37 percent of responders said they did not trust FOX. Not surprisingly, 74 percent of Republicans said they trusted FOX, compared to only 30 percent of Democrats. The polls also shows that only 33 percent of African American voters trusted FOX News.

CNN was the next most trusted news source, with 39 percent saying they trusted it, compared to 41 percent who didn't. 59 percent of Democrats said they trusted CNN, while 33 percent of Independents and only 23 percent of Republicans said they found CNN credible. Public Policy Polling surveyed 1,151 registered voters from Jan. 18-19.

Polls can be designed to say whatever you want. We don't know what part of the country the responders came from. I am sure California voters would respond differently to Alabama voters. The racial breakdown of the responders to the poll is illuminating. 74 percent of responders where white, 12 percent where African American and 10 percent where Hispanic. So a poll of mainly white men stated that they found FOX News the most credible news source. This is not surprising since 95 percent of FOX viewers are white, and their programming is tailored to angry, white men.

You also have to factor the stupidity of the average American. (Most Americans can't pick out Europe on the map, and can't tell you the difference between Iraq or Iran, talk less of locating them on the map.) I don't know how anyone with a half-functioning brain could think that FOX is a credible news source. I knew our education system was in trouble, but we should all be worried when Americans considered the notoriously-biased FOX News as a credible news source.

This is the channel that gave us Glenn Beck, a host who can't even spell oligarch correctly. Beck also peddles a different conspiracy theory every night. And they also made Sarah Palin, a woman who thought Saddam Hussein was responsible for 9-11, a pundit.

There are numerous other incidents of FOX news error that would get a rookie reporter fired such as:
  • Referring to Rep. Mark Foley, the congressman busted for sexually harassing minors, as a Democrat. (This is not the only time they have misidentified a disgraced Republican as a Democrat.)
  • Running a story claiming then Sen. Barack Obama attended a Muslim school, which was later discredited by CNN.
  • Accusing the Obamas of performing a "terrorist" fist bump.
  • Running fake footage of the Tea Party rally to make the numbers seem larger.
  • Deliberately editing footage to create misleading quotes.
Check out Media Matters for more of FOX's never-ending lists of journalistic sins.

Alarmist Root Article Claims Obama Paving Way for Palin Presidency

Sen. McCain concedes presidency to Sen. Obama in Phoenix, Arizona
Sometimes left wing blogs can really get on my nerves, especially when they start going over the top with their anti-Obama diatribes. The Root, a web site that is geared towards African American news, recently printed a ridiculously alarmist story claiming that Barack Obama's screw ups are guarnateeing a Sarah Palin presidency.

Firstly, Palin has not come out and said she will run in 2012 and secondly, there is no guarantee that she will make it through the gruelling primary process. Palin has a reputation for quitting when the going gets tough and she attracts scandals the same way Tiger Wood's attracts bimbos.

In addition, 2012 is still two years away. There is still plenty of time for the economy to improve. Plus Jon Jeter, author of the Root article, is discounting Obama's popularity. The country is changing and becoming browner, while the GOP seems to be digging in its heels by becoming more conservative and sticking to it's base -- angry white people. Just look at the success of the Tea Baggers.

Ron Paul Says American People Are Demanding Third Option

Rep. Ron Paul talks to CNN about former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's decision to speak at the Tea Party convention. (She is alleged to be collecting $100,000 for his speech.) Palin turned down the opportunity to speak at the Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC) convention alongside other Republican 2012 hopefuls, which may suggest that she is positioning herself to run as a third-party candidate.

I don't think Palin is a serious candidate and even if she ran on the third party ticket, she would only guarantee their failure. Palin creates drama every where she goes, and unlike Ronald Reagan, who was called the Teflon President because scandals never stuck to him, Palin is theVelcro Candidate who collects scandals the way nerds collect Star Wars figures. If the Teabbagers want to put their faith in a candidate as shallow as Palin, they have big problems.

Paul, a Republican with a libertarian streak, says that the main problem with the American political system is that both parties are too similar, especially when it comes to their views about the size of government and fiscal policies. He has some points, although I would argue that there is a big difference between a Republican party that started two wars and gave tax cuts to the rich, and a Democratic party, which is trying to push through health reform and middle class tax cuts.

Paul says that any third-party candidate will have a hard time breaking through the American political system. He said that even getting on the debates is difficult if you do not belong to either of the two parties.

Randall Terry Listed As One of the Whack Jobs of The Year

Rep. Moran and Howard Dean host town hall on healthcare in Reston, Virginia

Randall Terry

As we round out the year many media outlets are publishing their year end lists. With 2008's heated political rhetoric there were plenty of candidates for Whack Jobs of the Year. The Daily Beast's list features the usually suspects such as Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck and Michelle Bachmann. However the list also include people they deem as left-wing nuts such as Rep. Alan Grayson.

One of the worst candidates is conservative Randall Terry, an anti-abortion activist, who has produced a video featuring a man in an Obama mask stabbing an old, white lady to death with Snoop's "Murder Was the Case" playing in the background. Is this guy on the Klan's payroll? See the video below.

Palin Puts Four Journalists on Banned List

UPI POY 2009 - News and Features

Sarah Palin continues her media offensive for whatever future career she is going to choose, whether that's a book seller, TV show host or maybe even a politician.

But her decisions seem to be moving her father away from the political arena. In her latest PR disaster, Palin banned four journalists, who she didn't like, from covering one of her events in Alaksa.

It's never an good idea to block out the media, that just makes them madder. But it does put Palin in line with the Bush administration, who practised the same fascist tactics when it came to stifling the press.

Viggo Mortensen Takes on Sarah Palin

New York Premiere of Dimension Films' "The Road" - Arrivals

Film star Viggo Mortensen warns that Sarah Palin won't go away. In this interview with the Daily Beast, he compares her to former President George W. Bush, who was also underestimated by the media. He says that the former Alaska governor is improving her speaking skills. Bush's grammar was also awful, but he somehow managed to identify with the American public. However Bush did come from a hugely influential political family, who were able to throw their weight behind. Let's hope that we don't go down that road again.

Hutchinson: Ignore Beck and Co.

Civil Rights Pioneer Rosa Parks Remembered

Earl Ofari Hutchinson (red shirt) is pictured here with other civil rights leaders as they pay tribute at the Rosa Parks Freeway.
I respect Earl Ofari Hutchinson's political opinions, but I am not sure if I agree with him here. He says that left-wing commentators and the Main Stream Media are wrong to focus so much energy on FOX, Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin. Hutchinson says that the more criticism they receive, the stronger they get. Beck and FOX thrives on controversy, because that means more ratings. I am torn, while I realize that it is probably better to ignore the blowhards on the right, I believe that we need to monitor what they say and keep them accountable.

Palin Fans Can't Recall What She Stands For

I don't know if this is funny or tragic, but here is footage of Palinites (is that what we are calling them?) who are so enamored with the former Alaska governor, that they can't actually remember what she stands for. It is truly frightening to think that people would vote for a candidate and not know their platform, which makes you wonder if Palin's popularity is solely based on her personality? The answer must be yes, because she has few political or economic accomplisments. The misinformation being regurgiated shows that too many people get their information from FOX News, which is like going to a fish market in search of a good steak.

More Details Come Out About The McCain-Palin Feud

UPI POY 2008 - Campaign 2008.

Hindsight is 20/20, but you have to wonder what was Sen. John McCain thinking when he choose Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate? The partnership seem fraught with problems as McCain chafed at the fact the Palin was outshadowing him.

Now we have more details about the troubled paring. A new book called "Sarah From Alaksa," claims that the McCain people pulled the plug when Palin went on stage on election night. Media reports claim that Palin also wanted to give a consession speech, and McCain said no. (It would have been the first time that the vice presidential candidate also gave a concession speech.) The McCain team cut the power on the Palin family when they walked on stage, to make sure she they couldn't say anything.

Obama Campaign Manager: Palin Was a Blessing to Dems

David Plouffe, Barack Obama's, campaign manager went on "Meet The Press" on Sunday and all but thanked Sarah Palin. He said the Obama campaign was astounded when her selection was announced. (They had to Google her.) More importantly, he said that Palin, and the conservative wing of the GOP, are leading them to ruin. New York Times columnist Frank Rich details how Palin and outsiders are meddling in a New York congressional race.

Plouffe has a point. As shown in the last election, the country is becoming more liberal, and yet elements of the GOP want the party to become more conservative. If they keep going that way, they will eventually end up looking like a fascist party. (Although some liberal commentators would say they already have reached that point.)

Most presidents and ruling parties, succeed by being moderates. Clinton was a moderate Democrat, and Obama seems to be a moderate. Is there room for moderates in the GOP? It does not seem so.

Iowa GOP Baulk at Palin Speaking Fee

Sarah Palin Hands Over Power To Alaska's Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell

An Iowa conservative group is struggling to raise Sarah Palin's $100,000 speaking fee. Why anyone would spend that kind of money to listen to Palin's ungrammatical drivel is beyond me. I have to wonder if all these speaking fees and book deals don't make her look money hungry? Palin cannot seriously be considered as a candidate for president in 2012. She is a velcro candidate. Instead of scandals bouncing off her, they stick to her. She has a scandal a week, first it was the pregnant, unwed daughter, who was against abstinence and then for it, now it's her daughter's baby daddy, who can't keep his mouth shut. Does the GOP really needs this? Democrats are hoping she gets the ticket.
